The department of Transport, which is involved in SUITS project, offers its expertise of both: passenger and freight transport. Urban mobility is a relevant part of its activity, having experience in activities such as modelling and simulation of traffic and forecasting demand. This can be used to define control policies before its implementation, to support the local authorities to the definition and development of SUMPS, to offer mobility solutions for peak traffic centers, or to define and study the impact of soft measures in urban areas.
ITENE has also a proved expertise on the application of sustainable urban mobility planning, ITS for travellers to choose sustainable routes, and transport impact assessment.

Turin is a city and an important business and cultural centre in northern Italy. Turin is a node of the Ten-T corridor. Therefore, it will be more and more an interchange centre for people and for the delivery of goods. The challenge will be to ensure a growth that will be environmentally sustainable. For this reason, the City Government has approved several programmes including:
- The Turin action Plan of Energy: this is a plan with 45 actions to achieve the aim to reduce the CO2 pollution of 20% by 2020
- The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan: in this plan there are 7 address lines for sustainable and secure mobility
- BICIPLAN: this plan regards the development and the growth of bike mobility
- SMILE: in this plan there are 40 actions to converse Turin into a Smart City.
Furthermore, the city is working for a new delivery of goods plan that would be environmentally and economically sustainable.
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) is a core department within the recently established West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA, 2016). Both are local government organisations which lead and unite seven constituent councils to manage investment, pool resources and set the strategic direction for regional policy. The West Midlands region encompasses three cities, post-industrial and suburban settlements, and 2.8 million residents. The area is characterised by the diversity of both its population and urban landscape.
TfWM is driven by the ambition to create an improved transport network that can support growth, regeneration, social improvements and the environment. It operates under the twenty-years strategic plan ‘Movement for Growth’, which recognises the role of an inclusive, evidence-based transport system in realising wider outcomes. Sustainable development requires an integrated approach to policy and science because many of the issues it raises cannot be addressed within a single department or using the tools of individual scientific disciplines. This is where the Wuppertal Institute’s research programme begins – by taking an interdisciplinary approach and working towards systems understanding. Applied sustainability research is the Wuppertal
Institute’s stated mission. The Wuppertal Institute collaborates with a multitude of universities and institutes around the world. The Wuppertal Institute has longstanding experience with a multitude of national, European and international projects on sustainable transport, as well as with ex-ante and the ex-post evaluation of transport, energy and climate policies, design and evaluation of carbon reduction and energy efficiency strategies, programmes and services carried out by companies, public policy and other actors. WI also worked on several projects at the national and local level in Germany that assessed the potential of non-motorised mobility and transport and evaluated the transferability of solutions, such as bike-rental schemes.
The Mobility Agency of Rome “Roma Servizi per la Mobilità” (RSM), was established in 2010, is fully owned and directed by the City of Rome (Roma Capitale) and it supports the Mobility Department in the exploitation of its policies, aimed at reducing the impacts of traffic towards a sustainable mobility system, also through the management and control over the “Contracts of Service” with the Public Transport Operators. Furthermore RSM mission consists in planning, supervising, coordinating and controlling the processes related to private and public mobility, sustainability and cycling, freight distribution and logistics, including planning of infrastructures and services, developing ITS for mobility in Rome.
RSM guarantees the relationship with the citizens for the information on mobility services and annually performs Customer Satisfaction analyses on mobility.
RSM has fully supported the Mobility Department in drafting the recent Urban General Traffic Masterplan. The PGTU is the strategic tool used by the City Administration to plan middle-term actions on traffic and mobility.
